SR SOFTWARE ENGINEER (Contract Position)
 
EDUCATION:   A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other related discipline.
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • This position requires a minimum of three years experience, of which at least one year must be specialized.
  • Analysis and design of scientific applications on complex systems for large scale computers
  • Proven ability to work independently or under only general direction on complex application problems involving all phase of systems analysis.
RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Coordinates with the Project and/or Program Manager to ensure problem solution and user satisfaction.
  • Makes recommendations, if needed, for approval of major systems installations.
  • Prepares milestone status reports and deliveries/presentations on the system concept to colleagues and end user representatives.
SKILL SET REQUIRED:
  • 3-5 years experience Recent Unix/Linux background (preferably Linux)
  • C++ & C programming languages
  • Experience with a variety of scripting languages (e.g., bash, csh, sh, etc.)
  • Experience in project documentation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience scientific software development background
  • Willingness to support operations 24x7 on call
DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Python programming language background
  • Perl programming language background
  • 5+ years experience

PRINCIPAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER (Contract Position)

EXPERIENCE:
  • This position requires a minimum of five years experience, of which at least three years must be specialized.
  • Analysis and design of scientific applications on complex systems for large scale computers
  • Proven ability to work independently or under only general direction on complex application problems involving all phase of systems analysis
  • Knowledge at a level to serve as an expert in a specialty area, e.g., applications system design, computer equipment analysis, etc., or of general data processing covering a wide range of technology and applications
  • Ability to plan advanced systems projects or resolve critical problems in existing systems which require innovative solutions, etc.
  • Ability to advise top management on new developments and advanced techniques. Ability to plan/organize/direct studies to develop long-range forecasts and recommendations.
  • Ability to coordinate development of standards, guidelines, or policy.
RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Developing, enhancing, and providing 24x7 support for the infrastructure necessary to obtain, process and display the data sets required by the customer to meet their operational mission.
  • Developing, enhancing, and providing 24x7 support for the infrastructure necessary to for the ADDS (www.aviationweather.gov/adds) web site, the processing required to keep the site data up to date, as well as work with partners to develop, test and deploy new functionality for the site.
SKILL SET REQUIRED:
  • 5+ years experience recent Unix/Linux background (preferably RedHat Linux)
  • C++, C, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, SQL languages
  • Experience in project documentation
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Willingness to support operations 24x7 on call
  • Experience with Apache administration
DESIRED SKILLS:
  • SQL/Postgress database management experience
  • Experience with weather or other scientific software development background
  • Experience with administration of Linux based firewalls & load balancers
  • " Experience with system security
